LEGO– The human mind is the only limit




We all have played with legos once as a child. The bright coloured blocks of different shapes and sizes used to highly fascinate me. The endless combinations of the blocks used to keep me busy almost the entire time. I once remember building a robot out of those blocks– a very unrealistic and ugly one though. Even went on making a tower twice the height of the three year old me. There are countless such childhood  memories with legos roaming around my head. I was thinking of mentioning a few more but it would probably bore the readers.


Well that was just the basic theme of lego designed for ages 3–4.



Over the years, many new themes have been introduced into lego. Some are based on popular movies,series or television shows while others on real world objects and are designed for a wide range of ages. Popular themes based on movies  include: Star Wars, Avengers, Batman, Harry Potter,etcetera. Among them, Star Wars is the most prominent.


There are lego models of almost every spaceship that ever appeared on the show: ‘The Millennium Falcon’, ‘Star destroyer’, ‘X-Wings’, etcetera and are designed very intricately.




'Technic" is the most coveted section of the lego franchise which deals with

almost every real world machinery starting from cars,trucks,bikes to even the weirdest of

machineries that the human mind can comprehend. Most of the lego Technic sets are

predesigned like the other lego variants and come with a manual and all the neccessary part

s required to build the model. The reason these models are so sought after is that imitate real

world machinery with great precision.







Each part–gears,pistons,suspensions,chains,levers,etc; moves in synchrony as

the model(maybe a car) traverses a particular terrain.


What makes them even more fun and interesting is that some models can even be controlled

remotely.

 



One can even choose to build a completely functional model on his own since every

spare part can easily be purchased. But building such a complex model does require

tremendous imagination, determination and sometimes (basic/advanced) mechanical knowledge.



Mindstorms is another coveted section of lego. This section is basically an introduction to

robotics and is mostly sought after by those who have a passion for robots, automation and

programming. Furthermore, there are countless varieties of parts easily available for different

purposes and enthusiasts can choose between them to bring their imagination into reality. 



So , legos can potentially be used to imitate any real world object no matter the size. 


For instance, a full scale model of the Bugatti Chiron was entirely built out of legos. Over  1 million lego pieces were used and it’s powered by 2,304 lego electric motors giving it a top speed of 19 mph.






Finally, the lego Bugatti chiron is just a testimony of the potential that lego has.

It is the human mind– our imagination that both complements and limits the power of lego.
